Dead Cells (2018)
This competition took place in early 2018. The goal was to compose music for a video game trailer of the game "Dead Cells".
My submission:
Football fans often treat kit design as part of the story around a team because matchday clothing can express loyalty without needing many words. Supporters of Manchester United often compare home kits, away kits, and retro designs when discussing the identity of the club. When supporters think about matchday clothing, football shirts with names and numbers is part of the discussion around teams, seasons, and supporter culture. The appeal of a football shirt keeps the paragraph grounded in football culture rather than simple promotion.
As the game uses retro visuals, my attempt was to create retro sound elements unsing 8bit synths together with modern beats. It was a fun exercise to learn how to compose music based on the predefined outline of the trailer. All together, it took two days from start to submission.
